“Public Welfare Training Program on Oncology for Ten Thousand Doctors”, Mission Accomplished in Advance in Changsha
On September 7, the “public welfare training program on oncology for ten thousand doctors” by Cancer Foundation of China was concluded in Changsha, Hunan. The nationwide program starting from and concluding in Changsha got its mission accomplished in advance within two years. The professional training on oncology for over ten thousand clinical doctors on in over 800 counties throughout the country helps effectively improve the standardized diagnosis and treatment capacity of grassroots medial institutions and propel construction of tumor medical community and hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system.
The concluding meeting for the “public welfare training program on oncology for ten thousand doctors” was hosted by Cancer Foundation of China and undertaken by Health and Family Planning Commission of Hunan Province and Hunan Cancer Hospital. After the concluding meeting for the “public welfare training program on oncology for ten thousand doctors”, a training class on standardized diagnosis and treatment of tumor in Hunan Province was held. More than 400 county-level oncologists from all over the province and surrounding provinces gathered around to receive the three-day academic feast by outstanding experts in the field of oncology.
Hu Ruirong, Deputy Director of Bureau of Medical Politics and Governance under National Commission of Health and Family Planning, Zhao Ping, President of Cancer Foundation of China , Long Kaichao, Deputy Director of Health and Family Planning Commission of Hunan Province, Liu Xiangguo, President of Hunan Cancer Hospital and so forth attended the ceremony.
The “Public welfare training program on oncology for ten thousand doctors” is aimed at training 10000 grass-roots doctors in 1000 counties throughout the country in 3 to 5 years. For this purpose, Cancer Foundation of China established the special office, set up the state-level and provincial teaching team, organized domestic specialists and professors on clinical oncology to compile textbooks and give lessons according to the unified standards.
According to Long Kaichao, Deputy Director of Health and Family Planning Commission of Hunan Province, Hunan shows an incidence rate of cancer at 213.20 per 100,000 people with cancer mortality rate reaching 142.03 per 100,000 people. Different places show variance on diagnosis and treatment service capacity for tumor. With constant perfection on hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system, regulated diagnosis and treatment competence on tumor in the extensive grassroots medical institutions urgently calls for improvement. The public welfare training program on tumor and training class on regulated diagnosis and treatment of tumor effectively serves the impetus role to help county-level doctors to acquire standard clinical routes of tumor and improve their competence on regulated diagnosis and treatment of tumor.
By far, the “public welfare training program on oncology for ten thousand doctors” has held 34 training classes in Changsha of Hunan, Guangxi (Nanning, Guilin, Beihai), Nanchong of Sichuan, Jiangsu (Yancheng, Xuzhou, Nantong), Haikou of Hainan, China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing, Shandong (Tai’an, Liaocheng), Shanxi (Changzhi, Datong, Yuncheng, Taiyuan), Chongqing (two terms), Lishui of Zhejiang, Henan (Zhengzhou, Anyang), Yunnan (Kunming, Dali), Inner Mongolia (Hohhot, Baotou, Chifeng), Fuyang of Anhui, Changchun of Jilin, Shenyang of Liaoning and Jiangxi (Nanchang, Ganzhou, Shangrao), covering 3363 hospitals (2173 second-class hospitals and above, 1190 community health service centers, maternity and child healthcare hospitals and health institutes at the county and town level) in 805 counties (county-level city, district or banner), 131 prefecture-level cities (states, alliances), 2 municipalities directly under the central government and 16 provinces. It targets at 9798 trainees including 611 from the minor nationalities.
Furthermore, 17 international friends from 7 ASEAN countries namely India, Burundi, Poland, Nepal, Indonesia, Burma and Yemen also got involved in the training on oncology for ten thousand doctors. The total number of trainees reached over 10200.
The “Public welfare training program on oncology for ten thousand doctors” drew 359 teachers from 83 hospitals to give lectures, including 252 botanic physicians, 107 associate chief physicians and 28 supervisors for doctorate students. Teachers who gave lectures and got highly rated by trainees would be given the honor for Training Program on Oncology for Ten Thousand Doctors by Cancer Foundation of China.
